Satan does not want you to know just how great our God is or who you really are. He has been perpetuating lies about our Father from the beginning. Insurance policies claim that when disasters strike they are an act of God. Religious organizations claim that God is pleased with a vow of poverty. People claim that God does bad things to good people. Satan would have you blind to who you are and how great your Father is less you come to your senses and return to Him with all your heart. I can assure you that when you do turn to Him, you will find the same reception that greeted the young son in the story of the prodigal son.

Unfortunately, too many Christians look at their relationship with God like the older son did! 

The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he answered his father, “Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!”

“My son,” the father said, “you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.”

In other words, the brother is saying, “Father, you are unfair!” 

The father’s response is critical to understanding the rest you’ve been given through Christ: “You are always with me, and EVERYTHING I HAVE is yours.”

The older son was too busy slaving for his father with a wrong perception of self-righteousness to actually enjoy his father’s goodness. Everything that father had was available to him all along. 

Not only that, but we have been given a double portion! You don’t receive it based on what you do, but by who you are in Christ—a son or daughter of God, enjoying an inheritance you did not have to work for but freely receive from your Father.
