The Resurrection of Jesus

1When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, # Mk 15:40, 47 bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Him. 2Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb at the rising of the sun. # Mt 28:1; Lk 24:1 3They said among themselves, “Who will roll the stone away from the door of the tomb for us?”
4But when they looked, they saw that the stone had been rolled away. # Lk 24:2; Jn 20:1 For it was very large. 5And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white robe. # Mt 28:2–3; Jn 20:11–12 And they were frightened.
6He said to them, “Do not be frightened. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen. He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7But go your way, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going before you to Galilee. # Mt 26:32; Mk 14:28 There you will see Him, as He told you.”
8They went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

9Now # 16:9 16:9–20 is not in the earliest manuscripts. when Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. # Mk 15:40; Lk 8:2 10She went and told those who had been with Him as they mourned and wept. 11When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it. # Lk 24:11

12After that He appeared in another form to two of them as they walked and went into the country. 13And they went and told it to the rest, but they did not believe them either. # Lk 24:33–35; Jn 20:25
The Commissioning of the Disciples

14Afterward He appeared to the eleven as they sat at supper, # 1Co 15:5 and He reprimanded them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
15He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. # Mt 28:19; Ac 1:8 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved. # Mt 28:19; 1Pe 3:21 But he who does not believe will be condemned. # Jn 3:36 17These signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; # Ac 5:16; 8:7 they will speak with new tongues; # Ac 2:4; 1Co 12:10 18they will take up serpents; if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; # Lk 10:19; Ac 28:3–5 they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
The Ascension

19After the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God. # Heb 1:3; 12:2; 1Pe 3:22 20Then they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. # Ac 5:12; Heb 2:4 Amen.
