Extended Memorization Of Scripture: 2 PeterSample
In the final chapter, Peter turns his attention to the coming “Day of the Lord.” This is the time of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He begins by speaking of his purpose in writing his letters (both 1 & 2 Peter): to stir up their minds to godliness by continual reminders of the truth.
This again is why we memorize—so that we can fulfill Peter’s vision in verses 1-2. A constant intake and meditation on the word of God is the antidote to the godless living that Peter warned against in the second chapter.
Recite yesterday’s verse, 2 Peter 2:22, ten times, being sure to include the verse number. Again, you should look at the screen if you need to refresh your memory. Old verses next, altogether: Recite 2 Peter 1-2:22 together once, being sure to include the verse numbers.
Now, recite your new verse. Read 2 Peter 3:1 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the screen and recite the verse ten times.
About this Plan
Adapted from An Approach To Extended Memorization Of Scripture, by Dr. Andrew Davis, this 62 day plan will take the reader through 2 Peter using a tried and tested approach of memorizing a new verse each day. At the end of the 62 day period the reader will have the entire book of 2 Peter memorized.
