A Time To Talk
Why we are here on earth – the quest to find our purpose – is something common to each and every one of us. Perhaps like me you’ve had seasons where you feel more assured, closer to finding and walking in the purpose for which you were created, but then you’ve also walked a path where darker times have made it harder to see any meaning in your circumstances.
The story of Esther was my “go to” when I was grappling for answers from my hospital bed. Believing I had a call on my life, I found myself re-reading an age old tale with new eyes.
I had always seen the story of Esther as one of a girl who overcame challenge to step into her one and only opportunity to do what she was born for. From a place of inexplicable pain and incapacitation it took on new meaning to me.
For sure, Esther was an orphan who was elevated to a position of great influence. But I now saw that she wasn’t promoted for just one “destiny moment”. Her life was about being positioned by God through many small acts of obedience. All that was needed for her to have that life-changing conversation that ultimately saved thousands of lives, was for her to own the moment.
If that’s the case; if it was less about Esther fulfilling one single moment, and more about her seizing the moment in front of her, what does this mean for us?
Could it be that in being faithful in the simple, everyday steps, God can use us in whatever position we find ourselves? Esther was used within the confinement of the royal court. But I could be used by Him even in hospital. You could be used right now, wherever you’re reading this and whatever your circumstances.
More than that, our purpose and calling are not limited to one “just such a time”. Every day brings new opportunities to be used strategically in God’s purposes. The key to finding fulfilment amidst circumstances we’d rather not find ourselves in, like Esther, is to seize every God-ordained conversation. To speak and bring life to others.
How incredible is God that at our darkest, when we feel most removed from the life we imagined, small steps of obedience, through talking or reaching out, could lead to lives being changed? Others, but also our own. Perhaps it’s time to talk…
