She Is Yours: A Parent & Daughter Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

SHE IS SEEN

For You

Thank God for sight—for vision. For the ability to look at the world around us. There is nothing that causes me to look on life with more excitement and gratitude than seeing a beautiful sunrise or gem of nature, like the Rocky Mountains. Or Niagara Falls. Nature can take my breath away.

The same is true of people. I love to admire the God-given gifts and talents of the people with whom I come into contact. I am inspired when I see people live out their passion and purpose in life. It doesn’t matter who they are. It could be the UPS delivery person, the 30-year veteran teacher, or the architect. Seeing God’s work in them invigorates me!

But being seen…ah, being seen might be the only thing better than being able to see, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the mountains can’t recognize that they are being seen. Nor can the beautiful canyon or lake. But for people, there is a feeling associated with being seen that is like no other. That’s because being seen means being recognized. It means being valued enough to be noticed. Being seen is the first step in being accepted.

Nathanael sensed this. Jesus omnisciently saw him under the fig tree, and that gave Nathanael the faith to follow Jesus as a disciple.

May we all remember that Jesus sees us too. He has full knowledge of where we have been and what we’ve been doing, and He still asks us to trust Him, to follow him.

We don’t see everything the way Jesus does, but we can be parents with our heads on a swivel. May we take every possible opportunity to really see our girls, even in their most normal moments. May we see what God has put in them. Their gifts. Their talents. Even their hurt and pain. And may they experience the beauty of being seen.

For Her

Have you ever worked really hard on something, but when you finally accomplished it, no one even noticed? Maybe you got up early to clean your room without being asked or cleared the kitchen table after dinner, but no one in your family even said thank you! Or maybe you did something that someone asked you to do, but they didn’t say thank you either! Well, it certainly doesn’t feel good not to be noticed, thanked, or appreciated for what you do, does it?

That’s exactly why I think you should know something—God always sees you! You don’t ever have to feel unnoticed or unappreciated because He has His eye on you! You are God’s daughter, and He cares about your every move and watches over you constantly.

Have you ever watched a family around a new baby? The baby doesn’t do anything, but everyone loves him so much, they just watch him. They watch him when he sleeps, when he eats… even when he just sits there! I think people love watching a baby for two reasons:

They want him to be safe. They are making sure he doesn’t choke or roll or do anything that could cause him harm.

They love him so much! People like to watch things they love!

God watches you for the same reasons. He watches you because he loves you and because He is always making sure you are safe. Knowing that God sees you is better than having anyone else notice you!

The best part is that God does not just see the things you do—He also sees inside your heart! He knows how you are feeling, and He knows what you are doing. In fact, He sees you when you make great decisions and also when you make not-so-great decisions. Let your heart and your actions show how much you love God, because He’s watching! He sees You!
