Kingdom Do’s & Don’ts—Disciple Makers Series #7

DAY 2 OF 6

Do Not Judge

We saw three “do nots” at the end of chapter 6 and there are three more here at the beginning of chapter 7. The first is “do not judge.”

We judge when we determine a person’s motive, intent or purpose for doing something.

First, we cannot do that—we do not have the ability to know what is happening in a person’s mind.

Second, we do not have the authority to do that—God keeps that to Himself.

Third, people respond by doing the same things back to us! (and we will not like it because they do not know our reasons for doing things).

Finally, God Himself uses the standard for us that we use for other people. If we want to be people of forgiveness, then we must forgive. If we want God to be merciful to us, then we must be people who show mercy. If we want God to be patient with us when we struggle to do what is right, then we must be patient with others who struggle with the same thing.

So stay off the judge’s chair. Bless and pray for those who do things against you or others that is wrong. Tomorrow we will learn how to correct others without judging.

Time to Pray

Father, this is a challenge because I think I know why people do things. I do not really know. So keep me today from judging. Keep me from taking Your place as Judge.

Today, I ask for a merciful heart—because I need Your mercy.

Today, I ask for a generous heart—because I need You to be generous to me.

Today, I ask for an understanding heart—because I want to understand You and what You have for me. In Jesus’ name Amen.
