Disciplines Of The Kingdom - Disciple Makers Series #6Sample
When you fast, do so in secret
When you give… When you pray… When you fast…
Do not do it to be seen by people. If you do you have your reward.
God sees us walking in obedience. It blesses Him to see us doing it.
Notice that God wants to reward us for doing these things. He is serious about that too. He wants to release blessing upon us. These three disciplines are ones that He commands us to do, watches how we do them, and honors/rewards us when we do them correctly. So set them in your monthly calendar. Pick daily times to pray. Pick weekly times to give. Pick monthly times to fast. If you want to do it more often, that is fine – start here.
Time to pray
Father, If You command us to do these three disciplines – and then reward us for doing them as You want – why is it we have so much difficulty doing them? Fasting is hard for me. I know I need to do it. I also know myself. I struggle here. So help me do it consistently. Help me do it so that it brings blessing to my life and helps me understand You and Your heart for me. I ask this in Jesus’ name Amen.

About this Plan
Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to being Disciple Makers. This is the 6th of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. Jesus describes the three disciplines of His Kingdom rules. The three disciplines of Giving, Praying and Fasting are laid out for us. We also begin the “Do’s and Don’ts” of Kingdom living.
