Silent Killers: AnxietySample
The weapon against anxiety
We defined anxiety as awareness working against you, and we found that the battle of anxiety happens inside your mind. The devil uses anxiety to cloud our minds and to distract us. When awareness works against you and creates limitations in your life, you have the ability to use that limitation to your advantage. Instead of getting backed into a corner or being defeated, you can use your limitations to bring glory to God. In the case of anxiety, you can make your limitations work for you by creating an intense awareness of the right things, just as Paul instructs the church in Philippians 4:8. You can create an intense awareness of the truth from God’s word, like Jesus reminding us that He gave us peace of mind and heart in John 14:27. And you can create an intense awareness of God's spirit in your life, like the scripture says in 1 John 4:4 - “the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
This awareness that you create will immediately battle the attack of anxiety that's coming against you. When you are feeling anxious, you can also be open and talk with someone (your parents, a trusted friend, a leader) about what’s going on in your mind. This vulnerability can create a safe place for you to combat the devil, and as an added bonus, for others to fight with you. You can make awareness work for you and for others around by creating awareness of the things of God instead of the lies of the devil.
Action Step: Write down and work to memorize the three scriptures that we read today to help create an intense awareness of God in your life.
