Trusting and Believing: Devotions From Time of GraceSample
How Does God Help Me to Believe?
He gives me the Holy Spirit
One of today’s popular phrases goes something like this: “I’m not religious, but I’m spiritual.” By this people seem to mean that they are vaguely aware that there is more to life than making babies, making money, and making a name for themselves. Alas, those same people are pretty vague about what that spirit is or where it comes from.
Here’s the real spirit we need to be spiritual--the Holy Spirit, person #3 in the Holy Trinity. Through the Word of God and through Baptism (which is Word + water), God the Holy Spirit actually comes to live within a person. St. Paul wrote to a young pastor, “He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus 3:5,6).
You are not alone as you fight Satan. You are not powerless against the demons outside and inside. You are not clueless about life’s great questions. Know why? Because you are Holy Spiritual.
