For us parents, there’s no doubt that God has called us to a specific, intentional kind of parenting. And if you’ve been a parent for long, you know that it’s not a job for the faint of heart! For all of you who have ever wished that your child came with an instruction manual, you’ll find all that you need in the Bible. In today’s verses, God commands the Israelites with specific instructions on how to live – they are to keep His commands, and to love God with all of their heart, soul, and strength. As we strive to train our children in Godly thinking/living, I wonder if sometimes we as parents forget that these instructions first begin with us.

How imperative it is that WE first set an example to our children by loving God with all that we have, and submitting to His authority in our OWN lives. Then, when we seize teachable moments throughout our days, in all that we do, our children won’t just hear our words, but they’ll follow our lead.

God, I pray that I would follow You and love You with every ounce of my being, so that my children can learn through me the blessing and fullness of joy that comes from a life lived in You.
