Daily EncouragementSample
It is a healthy exercise for any man, not just for a king to sit before the Lord. There is no better response to the word of God. The reactions of both king and commoner to it will be the same.
There will be amazement at God’s activities in the past and wonder at the way in which he has led “this far.” It is a mark of every believer’s experience of the grace of God that it seems exceptional in his case: “Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O sovereign Lord?” (2 Sam. 7:19). His care of us is wonderful, and the fact that his care is of us is more wonderful still.
There will be contentment with what God is presently doing in our lives. David’s desire to build a house for his name (2 Sam. 7:13) has been turned down, but as he waits in the presence of the Lord there is no bitterness or rebellion in his heart, but rather a glad acceptance of the divine will.
There will be hope for the future: “And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future” (2 Sam. 7:19). It is a true saying that for even the lowliest saint, “the future is as bright as the promises of God.”
