What is the secret of the untroubled heart?
Trust in the One in whom God is perfectly revealed. “Trust in God; trust also in me.” “No one has ever seen God,” but our Lord “has made him known.” “The Son is the exact representation of his being” (Heb. 1:3). To trust him is to believe in the only One who can say with true authority, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
Trust in the One who has gone to prepare a place in heaven for us. “I am going there to prepare a place for you.” The deepest trouble with most people is that they do not know what awaits them when the troubles of the earthly life come to an end. The assurance that there is a place in heaven “reserved for you” (1 Pet. 1:4, AV) - personally prepared by the Saviour - garrisons the heart with the peace of God (Phil. 4:7).
Trust in the One who is absolutely trustworthy. “If it were not so I would have told you.” This is an amazing word. It is though he said, “If there were no place for you in the Father’s house - yes, if the whole thing were an illusion and there were no heaven - I would have told you. I am the truth.”
