Daily EncouragementSample
“But there is a God in heaven . . . ” That “But” is a mighty source of encouragement. It is the supreme fact about any situation. A despotic monarch, an insoluble mystery, helpless magicians, and the threat of execution - these elements might seem to convey the whole picture to human eyes. “But there is a God in heaven.” No crisis need be too much for the man who knows this. He may appear to be trapped in a corner, up against the final wall - “But there is a God in heaven.” And “Heaven rules” (Dan. 4:26). Daniel is not in the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, but in the hand of God.
“But there is a God in heaven.” This is the testimony of those who know him. They do not seek him only when a crisis comes - they always seek him. In a crisis they turn in prayer to the One they know - or rather, as Paul would say, to the One who knows them (Gal. 4:9; Dan. 2:17-18). “Born from above,” they have eyes which have been opened to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3), and they have no doubts about the King.
“But there is a God in heaven.” Like Daniel, we can face the crisis of today, the critical events of the coming days and even “the consummation of all things” undismayed.
