Unboxed: God's MasterpieceSample

“Submit” is a word that might leave a sour taste in your mouth. It is often associated with other negative words. So, when you are called to submit to God because he created you, how does that make you feel?
Imagine a fish decides to live on land instead of in a lake because it doesn’t feel like submitting to the way it was designed. It thinks that living how it wants to, with no boundaries, would make it free. That would be pretty tragic, and it would end in death. In a similar way, you were designed in a specific way by God. And you will live the most freely by submitting to his design. Because of sin, we sometimes feel like doing things against God’s commandments. But our passage today talks about how you were made to follow and submit to the Holy Spirit’s direction rather than your own feelings. This comes through spending time in prayer and reading God’s Word. As you do, you will flourish and grow spiritual “fruit” that brings his goodness to you and the world around you. How awesome is that?
Reflection Questions:
- Why is it so important that we let the Holy Spirit and God’s Word guide our lives?
- What is one part of your life that you haven’t submitted to God? How would your life begin to change if you did?

About this Plan

This is part 4 of 4 in the Feed Middle School series Unboxed: Created in God's Image. This plan unpacks Lesson 4: God's Masterpiece. God identifies us as his children. He designed us as his “masterpiece,” and through Christ, we are set free to do the good things he planned for us long before sin entered the world. We don’t need to cling to our own ideas of who we should be or what we must do. Being in Christ is enough.
