Flourish Where You Lead

DAY 1 OF 3

Seeing the Value in Others

Scripture:
“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony...” John 4:39 (NIV)

Reflection:
The Jews looked down on Samaritans and avoided contact with them, even if it meant adding significant miles to their journey. Jesus didn’t avoid Samaria. He chose to go through it, breaking cultural and social barriers to meet a woman who had most likely been cast aside by her community. He saw her. He engaged with her, listened to her, and affirmed her value. His leadership shepherded the woman into truth. He showed her she was worthy, not because of anything she did, but because of her inherent value.

Each of us is influenced by an internal narrative that births biases we may not even be aware of. Jesus’s example challenges us to pause and pay attention to those biases that keep us from seeing others as God sees them. Everyone matters to God, and that should matter to us everywhere including the workplace.

As we extend grace to see the value in others, simply by being themselves, we can make a significant impact in the lives of those we encounter at work. We can be positive catalysts for change that produces positive change in our workplaces and beyond.

Leadership Challenge:
What are the “Samarias” in your workplace? Who might be feeling unseen or undervalued?

Leadership Principle:
Leaders who value others cultivate cultures of dignity and belonging.

Prompt:
Where can you extend intentional grace or attention this week?

Write down one practical way you can show someone they matter – just for being who they are.

About this Plan

Flourish Where You Lead

Jesus’ radical encounter with the Samaritan woman (John 4:1–45) reveals how leaders can model empathy, inclusivity, and boldness in ways that transform workplace culture. As Christian leaders, we are called to create spaces where all people can flourish.
