Family by Choice: God’s Heart for Family Beyond BiologySample

Moses – Forcefully Surrendered, Fostered in Pharaoh's Palace
“Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.” (Exodus 2:1-3)
Moses’ mother made the heartbreaking decision to place her baby in a basket, sending him down the Nile in an act of both desperation and hope. She could no longer hide him from Pharaoh’s decree, yet she trusted that God would protect him. Her faith was met with divine intervention when Pharaoh’s daughter found and rescued him, raising him as her own in the palace.
Though he was raised with wealth and privilege in an Egyptian palace, Moses never lost his connection to his true identity. Deep inside, he knew he was a Hebrew—and that God had a purpose for his life beyond the palace walls.
Many children enter foster care due to circumstances beyond their parents’ control. Like Moses, they are placed in unfamiliar environments where they must navigate a new identity and an uncertain future. While their journey may be difficult, God’s plan for their lives remains. Foster parents and advocates can offer stability, guidance, and love—helping children embrace their worth and purpose in God’s eyes.
Call to Action:
Take time today to pray for children in foster care and the families who care for them. If you feel a tug on your heart to be a temporary family for a child in need, explore local foster care organizations to learn the next steps. If fostering is not possible right now, consider how you might support foster families—through volunteering, donations, providing respite care, or offering mentorship. Could God be calling you to stand in the gap for vulnerable children and their families?
Prayer:
Father, we lift up every child who has been placed in foster care due to circumstances beyond their control. May they experience love, safety, and hope. Give strength and compassion to the families who care for them, and guide us to be advocates for both children and their families. Help us reflect Your heart for restoration and healing. Amen.

About this Plan

Family is more than shared DNA—it is built on love, commitment, and the willingness to say, “I choose you.” Throughout the Bible, we see powerful examples of children raised outside their biological families—yet they are loved, nurtured, and called by God for a purpose. Scripture shows us that family is not just about birth, but about choice. For those considering foster care, adoption, or other forms of family care, this devotional explores how God’s heart for chosen families is woven into His plan of redemption—and how we are called to care for children in need of family.
