Who Is Jesus?

DAY 10 OF 10

The New Life

Who is Jesus? That is not just a question to be asked by those who are meeting Him for the first time. It is a question that must be asked by those who put their trust in Him because He is not just Savior. He is also King and Shepherd. As King, He has authority over our lives, and as Shepherd, He offers loving care over our lives. As we come to know Him in these ways, we discover how to thrive in our abundant new life, asking again and again: Who is Jesus?

HE IS THE KING WHO RULES

Revelation 1:5-6. . . and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

HE IS SHEPHERD WHO GUIDES

John 10:10-12, 27-30 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them... My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. The Father and I are one."

So, what is our part?

OUR PART IS THE OBEY HIS VOICE

Matthew 7:24-27 "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it."

AS WE OBEY HIM WE BECOME LIKE HIM

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

AS WE BECOME LIKE HIM, WE REFLECT HIM TO THE WORLD

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Who is Jesus? He is the one who not only saves us, but transforms us as we follow Him, listening to His words, building our lives in obedience to Him, becoming more and more like Him, and shining His light and love in the world.

Who is Jesus? He is the the One who loves you and who laid down His life for you. To trust Him is to offer Him your life, day by day, moment by moment, seeking His help to obey voice, knowing that your good Shepherd is committed to your good.

Sometimes that means letting go of what your old self desires. Sometimes it means taking risks to follow Him. Sometimes it means holding tight to Him in the storms, struggles and temptations we face.

Always it means living in freedom to purse your true calling as an image bearer of our great God and Creator.
