Faith for Dummies

DAY 5 OF 5

This is already the last day of this reading plan. I hope it told you something about the basic principles that I believe in.

Yesterday, we talked about suffering. And although suffering ain’t something fun, I also see it as something that is a part of life. In fact, when you start believing in Jesus, you will probably bump into some convictions and habits that go against Jesus’ teachings. And therefore, following Jesus will probably ‘cause you to suffer as well. The Bible calls this also to “die to yourself” or “carrying your own cross”.

We grew up on this earth with convictions that go against God’s original plan - the Bible calls this: sin. If we want to make time to look more like God, we probably will be convicted with some sinful ways we grew up with, and leave them.

All of this should be done out of free will. Christians believe that God gave us the possibility to make a choice. Because if there would be no free will, everything would be forced and what you do or choose wouldn’t matter anymore, right? That would be very non-loving, and it is not the love Jesus taught us about.

God made humanity responsible for changes to be made on this earth. To defend the poor, the sick, the weak. We should do this from the right motive: to look more like God. Don’t do it from a heart that wants to make itself feel better, but from one that accepts Jesus as the only Way to God.

The choice is totally yours to make. God would never force you. If you want to choose for Jesus today, I encourage you to pray:

“God, today I would like to make a decisive choice to believe that Jesus is the only Way to You. I believe Jesus died for my sin, so that I can live life with You, like you always meant for me. Jesus, I invite You in my life. Give me the wisdom and the power to live like you lived. My life is in Your hands. Amen.”

> In my own story, I also carry my personal cross. It has to do with identity, sexuality and faith. Want to know more? Listen to my music: www.daryljaykyle.com.
