You Loved My Heart To Death

Romans 5:8

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It's taken me some time to REALLY believe that when Jesus hung on a cross and said, “It’s done,” that He REALLY MEANT IT. There is such a default setting in me that wants to earn my way to God. Likewise, there is also a default setting in me that believes I can un-earn my way to being loved by Him. Something rooted deep within in me thinks Jesus said on the cross, “It is done...if____.” Or that He said “It will be done, unless....”

Thankfully, we have His perfect Word that sets my wandering heart straight...this Living Word that graciously lights our path so that we can walk toward Him in the midst of our struggle.

Even though the “old man” remains inside this frame, Christ loves me. That while we were yet sinners, He died for us! One of my good friends is constantly reminding us that “we live under a banner of IT IS FINISHED.” Let us believe it! Stop striving to be loved, but instead embrace that we are FULLY loved, so much so that He “loved our hearts to death.”
