Easter: A Walk Towards Holy Week (10 Day Plan)Sample

DAY 5 | Forsaken for Our Sake
Jesus' cry from the cross, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" reveals the spiritual anguish He experienced as He bore the weight of our sins. Forsaken literally means deserted, abandoned, and rejected. These words can be shocking to us. As human beings, it is hard to even fathom what was taking place here. But this moment of separation was necessary for our reconciliation with God. It represents the great chasm our sin creates not just between us and our God but even momentarily between the Father and the Son.
Listen. God was punishing Jesus as if He had personally committed every wicked deed committed by every one of us – past, present, and future. And in doing so, God can now treat and forgive those who have accepted Him as if they had lived Christ's perfect life of righteousness. Jesus bore the full weight of our sin so we could stand redeemed before our Heavenly Father.
Reflect on times when you've felt distant from God. Consider the sin that separates you from Him. How does knowing that Jesus experienced this for your sake bring conviction, comfort, and hope?
Confess and repent of anything that is standing in your way of the full relationship God has for you, receive His forgiveness, and be washed clean.
GUIDED PRAYER:
Thank You, Jesus, for bearing the full weight of my sins and for experiencing the ultimate separation so I could be reconciled and accepted by our Heavenly Father. Please search my heart, Lord, and reveal anything standing in the way of a complete relationship with You. Thank You for Your forgiveness and the cleansing You provide, washing me clean and drawing me near once again. May Your sacrifice not just be a story of the past but a present reality that transforms my daily life.
Amen.
