DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3 – The Price of Staying Still

Have you ever put off a decision by saying, “I’ll do it when I’m ready,” all the while waiting for the “right” moment in order to act? The truth is, the right moment never shows up on its own. We create it the very instant we choose to move forward. Remaining stationary may seem prudent, but in reality, we’re simply letting opportunities slip by—opportunities that could transform our lives.

The man Jesus healed at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:5-9) spent thirty-eight long years in the same spot, waiting for someone to help him into the healing waters. Day after day, he watched others experience breakthroughs and freedom, while he remained stuck. Imagine his frustration and helplessness as he saw everyone else progress, while his own situation stood still.

When Jesus encountered him, He asked a seemingly provocative question: “Do you want to get well?” Of course Jesus already knew that this man desperately wanted healing, the question was far more than a query about his physical condition—it was a challenge to take control of his life, shake off passivity, and finally choose to change. Jesus didn’t promise him a traditional remedy or a simple fix; instead, He urged him to stand up, pick up his mat, and walk—to take a step! A step of faith, a step outside his comfort zone, a step of action!

In our daily lives, we can often find ourselves postponing decisions, avoiding necessary confrontations, or waiting for perfect conditions in order to act. However, the truth is, no one changes by staying still. Our growth always takes place beyond the border of comfort, in the tangible and courageous actions we decide to take.

Today, Jesus asks you the same question: “Do you truly want to change? Do you really want to be free from whatever’s holding you back?” It’s an invitation to stop waiting for the perfect moment and boldly move toward the change you want to see. That step may seem small, but it’s precisely the one that will set new dynamics in motion in your life.

Reflect Today

  • Which area of your life is most affected by your reluctance to move forward?
  • What concrete action can you take today to break free from that stagnant situation?

Prayer
Lord, today I choose to let go of every excuse and every fear that has kept me stuck. Help me take that first, simple step that will break the hold of my own inertia. Guide me clearly and give me the courage I need to face every obstacle, knowing You are right by my side. Amen.
