Gospel of John Student DevotionalSample

As a kid, were you ever afraid of the dark? Maybe you lay in bed at night, wondering what might be lurking in the shadows once the light faded.
I remember having a night light that I absolutely loved—it was a projection of a princess and her castle. To me, it was the coolest thing I owned. Every night, my dad would tuck me in and tell me a bedtime story inspired by that little glowing image. He made up tales about the princess—how she lived happily in her castle, how she sometimes had to face a dragon, and how, no matter what, she was always rescued by the prince. Whenever I felt afraid, I would look at that light and remember the story. It reminded me that if danger ever came, a prince would surely save me. That small light gave me comfort in the dark, reminding me I wasn’t alone.
Before Jesus came, the world was trapped in a much deeper kind of darkness—not just the absence of light, but the weight of sin, brokenness, and hopelessness. People longed for a Savior, unsure if things would ever change.
And then, just like in my childhood story, the Prince stepped in. Jesus, the true Light of the world, arrived. He stepped into the darkness, bringing hope to the hopeless, love to the outcast, and salvation to the lost. But even as He walked among them, some people still chose darkness over light. They rejected Him, refusing to believe that He was the Savior they had been waiting for.
Jesus was the Savior then, and He is the Savior now. He was the Light then, and He is the Light now. When you invite Jesus into your life, everything changes. The world around you might stay the same, but your heart is transformed. Where there was fear, He brings peace. Where there was brokenness, He brings healing. Where there was uncertainty, He brings purpose.
Jesus doesn’t take away all the darkness in the world, but He gives you a light that will never go out—a light that leads, comforts, and reminds you that you are never alone.
Just like my childhood night light brought me comfort in the dark, Jesus is the Light that brings security to our souls. But unlike a simple lamp, His light never fades, never burns out, and never fails. No matter how dark life may seem, His presence shines bright.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
So today, if you’re feeling surrounded by uncertainty, fear, or pain, remember this: The Light of the world is with you. And His light will never fade.
