God Cares About You(r Mental Health)

DAY 7 OF 7

When God gives us something, it typically isn’t just for us to keep to ourselves. When he reveals more of who He is to us, He also invites us to share that with others. When He lavishes his love on us, He also asks us to go and love our neighbors. And when He comforts us in our troubles, He asks us to do the same for others.

Today’s passage is 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

If you read through 2 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul had a difficult life. Because of his desire to share the gospel, he was beaten, imprisoned, stoned, shipwrecked, and ambushed. He had to go without food, he had sleepless nights—at some times, apparently, his clothes were taken away from him.

And yet in the midst of all of this, Paul experienced the comfort of God.

For him, this didn’t always look like a change in circumstances. Rather, what he found was the internal state of well-being and peace that only God can provide.

This internal state is available to everyone who follows Jesus—no matter what their life circumstances involve. And as we experience the comfort that only God can provide, the invitation is for us to offer that same comfort to others.
