Healing in the WordSample

Faith has the power to move mountains, heal the sick, and even raise the dead. In Matthew 9:18-26, we see two incredible miracles take place—both fueled by unwavering faith. A desperate father and a suffering woman demonstrate what it means to trust in Jesus completely, despite their circumstances.

A Father’s Bold Faith

Jairus, a synagogue leader, came to Jesus with a heartbreaking request. His daughter had just died, but he believed that if Jesus laid His hand on her, she would live. Imagine the courage it took for him to make this request! Death, in the eyes of the world, is final. But Jairus believed Jesus had power even over death.

Faith does not ignore reality—it acknowledges that God’s power is greater than our reality. Many would have accepted defeat, but Jairus chose to believe. His faith moved Jesus to action. The same is true for us. When we come to Jesus with bold faith, trusting in His power, He responds.

A Woman’s Persistent Faith

As Jesus walked toward Jairus’ house, another person in need reached out to Him. A woman who had suffered from constant bleeding for twelve years approached from behind and touched His cloak. She didn’t speak to Him directly; she didn’t demand His attention. She simply believed that if she could touch even the edge of His garment, she would be healed.

Jesus turned and saw her. He didn’t rebuke her. He didn’t tell her she was unworthy. Instead, He reassured her: “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you” (v. 22). In that moment, she was completely healed.

How often do we hesitate to come to Jesus with our needs? This woman had suffered for over a decade, yet in one act of faith, everything changed. No matter how long we’ve been struggling, healing is possible when we reach out to Jesus in faith.

A Crowd of Doubters

When Jesus finally arrived at Jairus’ house, He was met with a crowd mourning the girl’s death. When He declared, “The girl is not dead but asleep” (v. 24), they laughed at Him. They saw only the impossibility of the situation. But Jesus was not discouraged by their unbelief. He removed the doubters, took the girl by the hand, and she got up.

Faith and doubt cannot occupy the same space. When we allow doubt to dominate, we limit what God can do in our lives. But when we trust Him, even when others laugh or scoff, miracles happen.

A Call to Trust Jesus

These two miracles remind us that Jesus responds to faith. Whether we are coming to Him with bold prayers like Jairus or with quiet desperation like the bleeding woman, He hears us. He sees us. And He moves in our lives when we trust Him.

May we trust Jesus fully, knowing that He alone has the power to heal, restore, and give life.

Respond to God’s word:

Both Jairus and the bleeding woman saw miracles because they took action in faith. Jairus sought Jesus despite the hopelessness of death, and the woman pressed through the crowd despite years of suffering. Their faith moved the hand of God.

Lord, I have faith in You. I have faith in Your love. I have faith in Your power. I have faith in Your authority. I have faith that You are listening to this prayer and that You will respond to my needs. You are loving and merciful toward me. I love and appreciate you Lord. Amen
