Learn to DiscernSample

Have you ever heard the expression "don’t shop when you’re hungry?" I know it’s true for me—shopping on an empty stomach always leads to impulse buys I regret later. 🤦🏻♀️
We’re discovering the meaning of discernment: the ability to make good and Godly decisions. There are moments when it’s better to pause before deciding. Just like you shouldn’t shop when hungry, don’t make decisions when:
1. You are emotional
Emotions can cloud judgments and lead to impulsive decisions right there and then without thinking it through. Emotions are also fleeting, causing you to regret your decision as your mood changes. This applies to all emotions, but most importantly, hurt and anger.
Human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. – James 1:20
Anger resides in the lap of fools. – Ecclesiastes 7:9
2. You are fearful
Fear is a trap the devil sets to prevent you from reaching your full potential. Choose faith over fear. Instead of fearing what could go wrong, trust that God is with you.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
3. You are tired
Fatigue skews perspective, making challenges feel bigger than they are. Cameron and I follow a simple rule: no major decisions after 10 pm. Rest refreshes your mind, making discernment clearer.
I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. – Jeremiah 31:25
Let’s commit to this: do not make important decisions when you are emotional, fearful, or tired. If you are married, discuss and resolve this with your spouse.
