God With UsSample

Abiding in Christ Every day
John chapter 15 speaks of Christ as the heavenly vine who has taken us believers as the branches. The engrafted believer grows in strength as the union with the main vine becomes surer and firmer. J.C Ryle, an influential preacher and writer in the Church of England explains that to “Abide in Christ” means to keep up a daily habit of constant, close communion with God, leaning, resting and using him as our fountain of life and strength. To have his words abiding in us is to keep his sayings and precepts continually before our minds and let them guide our actions.
How can we consciously make an effort to Abide in Christ every day?
- Psalms 42:1 says, As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. When we make focusing on God our priority, He opens our hearts so that we can understand the hidden things of His Kingdom.
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we live by faith, not by sight.” Walking by faith challenges us to look beyond the immediate and tangible and trust in a higher wisdom and plan. It reminds us to anchor our confidence in the unchanging nature of God even in the midst of life's uncertainties.
- Fight sin intentionally–Spiritual warfare is real, and having a battle plan grounded in God's word is crucial. In Ephesians 6:10-18, Paul talks about the Armor of God, showing us how we can stand firm against the enemy. When we meditate on the Word, pray, and rely on God's strength, we are better equipped to face the challenges that come our way.
Isaiah 43:2 NIV
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
We have a protector who is unwavering in His support and power. This perspective can offer us tremendous comfort, serving as a reminder of His divine omnipotence and faithfulness. It assures us that, even in the face of the most daunting challenges, there is hope and deliverance. This is a beautiful promise of God’s eternal presence with us–God is surely with us!
