Since 2011, Syria has been engulfed in a civil war, resulting in hundreds of thousands having lost their lives and millions having been displaced from their home. Recently, there has been a complete government overthrow. These circumstances create an urgent need for peace and stability.

The majority of the 21,500,000 Syrians adhere to Islam. Before the emergence of the Islamic State and the onset of civil conflict, Syrian Christians enjoyed relative freedom and stability compared to neighboring nations. The rise of extremism has transformed Syria into one of the most persecuted countries globally, with Christians facing abduction, torture, and death at the hands of militant groups.

Despite the darkness of war, signs of hope are emerging. Syrians are turning to faith in Jesus, seeking solace and redemption in the midst of suffering. And with the downfall of the Assad rule and dictatorship, there are glimmers of hope for more tolerance to all minorities, including Christians.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Continue to pray for lasting peace in Syria and for its new leaders, especially as there may be a more open door for Christians and the advance of the Gospel since the fall of the Assad regime.
• Pray for leaders of churches and Christian communities to lead wisely and be a light in the midst of darkness, removing all fear and securing their lives from evil.
• Pray for relief and humanitarian workers to have the strength and means to serve those in need with efficiency and compassion.
• Pray that faith in Jesus will grow among the Syrian youth and that God will use this generation to build a future filled with hope and promise.
• Pray for the country’s economy and people’s livelihoods as the nation rebuilds, that the Lord will meet their needs.

Dear Lord Jesus...I pray for Syria and its people today. Lord, I ask You to touch the hearts of the new leaders in this nation to act with wisdom and justice to bring peace, stability, and greater freedom. I pray for strong churches and communities of faith that reflect Your love and contribute to building a bright future. Based on 2 Thessalonians 3:3, I also ask for Your protection and strength for believers in the face of challenges, causing them to walk in the miraculous power of Your Holy Spirit and the authority of Your Word. In Your Name that Reigns Supreme, King Jesus. Amen!
