1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us we are sacred:
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So, you must honor God with your body.
But that isn’t exactly what happens in a hookup world.
God says our bodies aren’t our own; the culture around us says to do whatever we want with them.
God says we are invaluable; the culture says it’s okay to use and dispose of each other.
We’re supposed to do what the hookup world definitely doesn’t do: honor God with our bodies.
But how do we do that?
We honor God when we preserve the fullness of human sexuality by deciding, even from now on, not to reduce sex to anything less than God’s design for it.
We honor God when we respect and protect each other and when we choose not to use or abuse our bodies or each other’s.
And we honor God when we acknowledge what the hookup world denies: that when God created us, He gave us dignity—an innate respectability. You don’t have to earn it.
You are loved by God.
You are wonderfully made, in His image.
You are meant to reveal Him to others.
The hookup world overlooks that—but God invites you to uphold it.
Will you accept His invitation?
Pray
Lord, I accept Your invitation to uphold my own dignity—and to uphold the dignity of others. I am so honored that You created me in Your image. Please grant me the grace to reveal You to every person I encounter.
Reflect
How can you treat and talk about your body in alignment with your dignity? How can you respect the dignity of other people? How does your image of yourself change when you consider that God made you in His image?
