The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7Sample

The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

DAY 12 OF 39

A man who is about to die is told by an angel that he can bring one thing to heaven. Being wealthy, he grabs a large block of gold. When he arrives, the gatekeeper angel takes it and says, “Great! One of our roads was missing a brick.”

Lame joke aside, imagine stepping into heaven’s glory and still clinging to earthly treasure. The gospel calls us to view life through the lens of eternity. Heaven is our true home—we’re just passing through. Spiritually, we’ve already been raised with Christ, so our focus should be upward, living in light of what lasts forever.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying God’s gifts (1 Tim 4:4). He designed good things for us to enjoy. But what do you truly treasure? What holds your heart? Where does your mind wander when you daydream? Jesus says our hearts follow our treasure. Maybe it’s wealth, success, security, pleasure, or relationships. None of these things are bad in themselves, but they won’t last. In heaven, they’ll either fade away or be completely redefined.

Today, ponder this: What would it look like for you to treasure King Jesus this week? What choices might you make differently if your heart was fully set on Him?

About this Plan

The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

“You have heard it said…” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins to rebuild and reform our understanding of life in His Kingdom. In Matthew 5-7, He challenges the religious traditions of His day and the competing worldviews of our own. His words are a call to transformation—a new way to live under His reign. As Jesus lays the foundation for His Kingdom, we are invited to tear down false beliefs and build our lives on His truth.
