God's Redemption Story (Revelation)

DAY 3 OF 40

The Seven Churches - Day 3

Much like the followers of Christ in Ephesus, the Christians in Thyatira were commended by Jesus for their good deeds and acts of service, though they were also praised for their love. However, despite their love, good deeds, and Christian service, the Thyatiran church had one major downfall. They tolerated false prophets and false teachings that led people astray.

In many ways, the Christians in Thyatira are a reflection of “cultural Christians.” For some, Christianity is nothing more than a code of conduct. “Love your neighbor.” “Serve others.” “Treat others the way you would want to be treated.” These are all excellent biblical principles but do not bring salvation or true contentment. We must be careful not to create a hollow faith without a sound doctrinal foundation. The truths of the gospel cannot be replaced with kind words and good works.

Today, take a moment to pray and ask the Lord to reveal any places in your life where you have unknowingly been tolerating false teaching or engaging in activities that might lead weaker brothers and sisters astray. Then, ask Him to give you the strength and ability to change these things.
