The Take Off: Launching Into God’s Purpose

DAY 3 OF 5

From Fear to Faith

Have you ever shot an arrow with a bow? To launch it, you have to pull the string back and aim, but if you never let go, the arrow will stay stuck, no matter how much potential it has. Fear works the same way in our lives. It holds us back when God is calling us to move forward. But here’s the good news: the Spirit God gives us is not one of fear. Instead, He equips us with power, love, and self-discipline—everything we need to overcome fear and step into His purpose for us (2 Timothy 1:7).

•Power gives us strength to act, even when we feel weak. God’s Spirit empowers us to face challenges.

•Love shifts our focus from our fears to others. When we love God and people, it pushes us to be brave.

•Self-discipline helps us to stay steady and obedient, even when fear threatens to take control.

Fear may never fully disappear, but it doesn’t have to control us. Sometimes, courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting God enough to move forward even when we’re scared. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “if you can’t beat fear, then do it scared?” This is what it’s all about—obeying God, even when fear tries to hold us back. Fear has never been a valid reason to disobey God or avoid something good.

Take David, for example. When he faced Goliath, it would’ve been easy to let fear stop him—after all, he was just a teenager standing in front of a giant warrior. But David didn’t rely on his own strength; he trusted God. That’s what gave him the courage to step out in power and defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17:34-37).

Then there’s Moses. He was afraid to confront Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of slavery. Moses didn’t feel qualified and even told God he wasn’t a good speaker (Exodus 4:10-12). But God reminded him that He would be with him. As Moses obeyed God, miracles happened.

God has given you everything you need to let go of fear and step into His purpose for your life.

Reflection Question

What’s one fear or challenge you’re facing right now, and how can God’s power, love, and self-discipline help you take a step of faith toward overcoming it?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for giving me a Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Help me to trust in You and take steps of courage, even when I feel afraid. I know You are with me. Amen.
