Who Is Your Community?Sample

YOUR PART IN BEING THE COMMUNITY!
“Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:37-40
God created us in His image! After we accept Christ as our Savior and turn from sin, we are part of His Community, His Church! Jesus had a lot to say about the community and neighbors.
The very day I came home from the hospital, I had a knock on my front door. It was three more neighbors who did not stay long because they knew I needed rest, but their presence was enough to show their concern and love. My sister, through marriage, was at the hospital every day. I also received calls & texts from nieces, nephews, friends, and Pastors. I share these personal things not to tell my story but to give a visual of how we each can be part of the community.
Jesus is the example. He modeled the verse because to be more and more like Him, we need to pattern our lives in His mold:
• He fed the hungry and gave water to the thirsty
• He welcomed strangers
• He clothed those in need of clothing
• He visited the sick
• He visited those imprisoned
"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
I repeated the verse because the more we become neighbors, we are doing it to Him! That, my friends, is being a community!
Prayer: Lord, we often miss opportunities to serve You. Make us more observant of the needs around us. I ask, Lord, that this study plant seeds in the hearts of those reading it. In Jesus' Name. Amen

About this Plan

After a recent serious illness, I discovered first-hand how God works through individual communities. This six-day devotional makes us realize that we might not think much about the importance of who our community is—that is until we need one. The church is the community of various denominations who serve outside their walls.
