Responding to the Call: Embracing Gods Invitation With Obedience and FaithSample
Imagine being invited to a royal wedding. The palace has provided everything—including the proper attire—yet you choose to show up in your everyday clothes. This might seem absurd, but it's exactly what happened in Jesus's parable of the wedding feast.
After the initial guests refused to come, the king sent his servants to the streets, inviting everyone they could find. The banquet hall was filled with guests, but then something unexpected happened: "When the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn't wearing the proper clothes for a wedding" (Matthew 22:11).
This detail might not seem important but you must understand that during that time in ancient Middle Eastern culture, wedding hosts provided appropriate garments for their guests. This man's improper dress wasn't about lacking resources; it was about refusing to wear what had been freely given.
This speaks profoundly to how we respond to God's call. Often, we might think we need to get everything perfect before we can step into what God has for us. We need more education, more experience, more spiritual maturity. But here's the beautiful truth: God provides the "proper garments" we need.
Think about Paul's transformation. After his encounter with Jesus on the Damascus road, he didn't spend years in seminary before beginning his ministry. Acts 9:20 tells us, "And immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, 'He is indeed the Son of God!'" Paul understood that God had clothed him with everything he needed for his calling.
The proper garments in our spiritual lives might look like this:
- The righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- The armor of God (Ephesians 6:11)
- The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
- Spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
These aren't things we earn or achieve—they're gifts God provides. Our role is simply to put them on and wear them faithfully.
Pause and Ponder: What "garments" has God already provided that you might be neglecting to wear?
