When We Start Wishing We Could Go Back
There was a time, after I left my corporate job, when I began to question whether I had made the right decision. I missed the old Hope. I wanted to go back to what I knew.
This sentiment is mirrored in the story of Moses.
Would you believe, when Moses finally managed to set the Israelites free (after 430 years of slavery), they started wishing they could go back to captivity?
When the Israelites saw the Egyptians coming after them, they said to Moses: “Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” (Exodus 14:12)
Moses responded, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still” (vv. 13-14).
When we find ourselves wishing we could go back to our old lives, the ones that kept us enslaved in worldly ambitions, we have to make a conscious decision to let go of the way of the world and cling to His promises instead. This is hard work. This is like saying, “I don’t care what this world offers me. I know He has what is best for me.”
Daily, we have to choose to remain in Him even when the rest of the world tells us we are missing out and falling behind. His light will lead us, and He will fill our hearts in ways that the world never could. We can choose to whine (as I did), or we can remember WHO WON the battle between the Egyptians and the Israelites.
God wants to use every step you take to bring honor and glory to His name.
How can you let go of who you once were and step into what God is doing now?

If you’re like many women, you struggle sometimes with FOMO: the fear of missing out. The problem is, we can become so busy trying to create a life worth living that we miss out on the moment God has placed right in front of us. It’s time for us to embrace where God has us today. It’s time to embrace NOW over NEXT.
