LESSON 29
Our Storehouse
I would like to share with you some godly wisdom about finances, particularly on the subject of our storehouse.
10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:10-11
I want you to notice in verse 10 that God said to bring the tithes into the storehouse so that there will be meat in His house. It takes money to feed the Body of Christ meat! That’s the reason many churches have to close down. People are not bringing in their tithes into the storehouse so that there may be meat preached without hindrance. When the people are faithful to bring their tithes into the storehouse, there will not be any hindrance to the pastors bringing strong meat to the people.
Many people say, “I don’t tithe because tithing is under the law in the Old Covenant, and I am not under the law.” That is not correct. Abraham tithed to Melchizedek long before the law was ever written. Tithing is a Bible principle.
Just about everywhere in the Bible where tithing is mentioned, an amount of one-tenth of a person’s increase was considered to be a proper tithe. In other words, if you make $1000 every month, $100 of that is tithe. Someone might ask, “Well, I don’t really make $1000; I only bring home $850. So, what should I tithe?” I suggest very highly that you take it off the top. You will find that you will not have any trouble at all paying your taxes at the end of the year.
The key to tithing is consistency. It won’t work if you just try it once in a while. Tithing is a commitment that you make and are consistent in doing. And God will bless you abundantly. One translation of the Bible says that God will pour out a blessing that will overtake you to the point that you will say, “It is enough.” I can take a whole bunch of blessing before I will say, “Okay, God, that’s all I can handle for right now, thank You.”
Once again, in Malachi, God said to bring all the tithes into the storehouse so that there may be meat. The storehouse that He is talking about is HIS storehouse: the church, where the Body of Christ gathers to hear His Word ministered. But I want you to look at Deuteronomy 28, beginning with verse 5:
5Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 7The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against theet o be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8TheLORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses…
God said that He will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that we will not even be able to contain, but He did not stop there. He said that He will command the blessing upon MY STOREHOUSE. God’s storehouse will be full, and He says that OUR STOREHOUSE WILL BE FULL, too, if we follow the instructions that are given to us in God’s Word.
God said that if we would be faithful to bring the tithes into the storehouse, He would rebuke the devourer for our sakes. When you enter into faithful stewardship where God is concerned, God will take care of the devil on your behalf. Can you imagine what that sounds like to the devil when God speaks to him and says, “Satan, BE GONE!”?
God will command the blessing on my storehouse. Think about the power in God’s words. Do you suppose that when GOD speaks, it will come to pass? All the angels are at attention, and they move in my behalf to bring that blessing into my storehouse.
God’s voice, the Bible says, is like the sound of many waters. I have stood by Niagara Falls, and that is a magnificent sound! But when God speaks and says, “I command the blessing upon Jerry Savelle’s storehouse,” all hell trembles at the sound of that command.
When I said these scriptures speaking about my storehouse, the Lord spoke to me and said, “Son, this is an avenue of blessing that I cannot give to you because you do not have a storehouse.”
When I first got a hold of the Word of God, I thought it was wrong to have anything that resembled a savings account. And when I read in Matthew 6:19, Lay not up for yourselves treasure upon earth… I would say, “That’s right, we aren’t supposed to have anything in reserve because it’s not faith.” But God began to show me that when I honor Him with my substance, He will bless my storehouse. In business, it is called capital reserve. The only thing God is against is putting your trust in that reserve as your source of supply.
When my wife and I first got married, we would try to save money. We would get about $200 saved, then take it out and leave $5 just to keep the account open. We were not successful at it. After I got turned on to the Word of God, I thought that God did not want me to have a storehouse of any kind, so that relieved me of the discipline of consistently putting money into it.
I was still working with Brother Copeland when I started to see the wisdom of God in the storehouse. The Lord shared this with me – the Spirit of God told me to treat it like HIS storehouse. I give one-tenth to His storehouse, and I give one-tenth to my storehouse. We decided that we would honor the Lord with the first fruits of our increase. And we also decided that whatever we did with God’s storehouse, we would do with ours. We would write our tithe to the Lord first and then immediately write out our tithe to our storehouse. It would look like we weren’t going to have enough left over to meet our needs, so we would go even farther and remind God of His Word that He would command the blessings upon our storehouse, and the blessings began to flow in!
Not only did we do this in our personal lives, but we also started doing it with the ministry. And it worked the same way! God commanded the blessings upon our storehouse. And there are times when, because of the storehouse, we are able to buy expensive pieces of equipment that we may need and not have to draw any money off the general operating funds of the ministry to pay for them!
The Lord said this to me not too long ago, “Son, just because you are in the ministry does not mean that you discontinue the use of good business sense. It’s not too smart to have more money going out than you have coming in. If you keep operating that way, you’ll be just like any other business, and you’ll have to shut down.”
Be smart about your finances. Let the Spirit of God speak to you about the things that you decide to do. He will assist you, and you will grow and progress in godly wisdom in finances. Praise the Lord!
FAITH CONFESSION CONCERNING GODLY WISDOM IN FINANCES:
“In the name of Jesus, I will prosper in whatever I do and wherever I go. I am a good steward, consistent, diligent, dependable, and trustworthy. I honor God; He’s my source. I give Him all my substance and He shall command the blessing upon my life – on my storehouse – for in the name of Jesus, I’m blessed coming in and blessed going out, blessed in the city, blessed in the field. I’m blessed! I’m blessed!”
About this Plan
These lessons represent many years of study, research, prayer, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. The revelations that I shared in each lesson I have applied in my life and ministry for over fifty years. I have designed these, so you will have one lesson for each day of the month. At the beginning of a new month, go back to lesson #1 again. Repeat this every month for an entire year. Doing this will establish these principles firmly in your life.
