The Reasons for Anxiety

DAY 3 OF 3

3. Who does your heart belong to?

It is not enough to rest your heart on Christ, nor just to make him dwell in you, he must be the Lord and Master of your life.

Verses 31 to 32: "Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."

Jesus says that it is the Gentiles, that is the pagans, who seek all these things. If we do not allow Him to reign over us, we are like the pagans, who live to satisfy only their own desires and behave as if God does not exist. He must have full possession of our entire being, soul, body, and spirit. Only in this way will we have total victory over worries.

Verses 28 to 29: "And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

The lily cannot decide for itself where to be planted and where to grow, but where God places it brings its beauty and scent to that place.

Have we put our lives at the service of the Lord, however, and wherever He has placed us?

So what is the solution for anxiety?

  • go to Jesus, bring anxiety, oppression, depression, and tiredness to Him, to receive peace and rest for the soul;
  • seek the kingdom of God and his justice, that is, work towards important things, salvation, and communion with God;
  • remain steadfast in God, certain and sure that He, like a good Father, will provide for our every need.
