Ignite Your Motherhood: 5 Days to Break Free From Mom Guilt and Live With Intention a 5 - Day Plan by Belinda Merrin

DAY 2 OF 5

Finding Peace in the Chaos

Is your day spinning out of control?

Are you overwhelmed by all the mommy duties you’re juggling in this season? Or perhaps you're navigating a new stage of motherhood, like teething, potty training, balancing life with multiple children, or raising a teenager. Motherhood can get very messy. And we are, oftentimes, seeking peace or relief from all the chaos. But the truth of the matter is that removing the chaos isn’t always possible or the best option.

When I became a mother of two children under age two, I would think to myself that if I could just get past this chaotic season of a crying colicky baby and potty training or find an overnight solution, I would finally have peace. Until there was another chaotic day, another challenging moment, and a new growing pain. Soon, I found myself anxious, exhausted, and frazzled anytime mom life became messy. So often, I missed the peace that was available to me in the chaos. The calm in the storm. The still, small, comforting voice of reassurance.

Mama, I know it sounds weird and maybe even impossible, but it is possible to find peace in the messiness of motherhood. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. In John 14:27, Jesus left us with a promise and a charge. “Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."In both verses, He promises a peace that is not of the world but one that transcends our comprehension.

So, how do you find this peace? You’ll find it in Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace. All you need to do is ask. Philippians 4:6 says, “But in every situation, present your requests to God.” 1 Peter 5:7, we are reminded again to cast all our anxiety on Jesus because He cares for us.

Mama, I charge you today to not be troubled by the messiness of motherhood but instead, release it to God in prayer and ask for peace in the chaos.

Reflect: Where do you most need God’s peace, and how can you create moments to pause and invite His calming presence into your heart and home?

Prayer: God, I invite your presence and peace into my heart and home. Help me to see You and find peace amid chaos.
