Walk This Way

DAY 23 OF 30

Walk in Step with the Spirit

One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is the promise of the Holy Spirit. Before Jesus went to the cross, He told His disciples He would soon be leaving, but He promised the Holy Spirit would come as their Helper, Comforter, and Guide. The same promise Jesus made to His followers then is for us today. We are not left to navigate life alone. God has given us the Holy Spirit to lead and direct us.

But how do we follow the Spirit? Galatians 5:24 says, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” To live and walk by the Spirit, we must first surrender our lives to Christ. There is only one steering wheel in a car for a reason - only one person can control the vehicle at a time. In the same way, we must surrender control of our lives to the Holy Spirit. Surrendering means putting to death our old sinful nature and submitting to God’s will. This is a daily decision to crucify the flesh and allow God to take control of every area of our lives.

This is not just about behavior modification but heart transformation. As we continually give our hearts to God, we allow Him to change us into the image of Christ.

Once saved, the Holy Spirit is sealed in our hearts to guarantee our salvation, but this does not mean we are free from the struggle of sin. Though the Spirit dwells in us, we must actively choose to walk in obedience. The challenge for every believer is to keep in step with the Spirit, neither running ahead in our own strength nor falling behind in disobedience. Walking in step with the Spirit means living a life marked by God’s Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship with His people. These spiritual practices help us stay in tune with the Spirit’s leading.

Walking in step with the Spirit is not always easy; it requires trust and perseverance. But God equips us for this challenge. The Christian life is not an aimless wandering. The Spirit reveals God’s ways and empowers us to live according to them. Sin will always try to take control, but through the Spirit, we can have victory in Christ.

Reflect & Pray

Lord, give me the strength to walk in step with the Spirit. I surrender my life to You and will follow Your lead today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Walk This Way

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
