Walk This Way

DAY 12 OF 30

Walk with Intentionality

Movement without intentional direction is simply wandering. The aim for this coming year is to avoid wandering around Christ and instead intentionally walk in the way of Christ. We need clear direction to walk with Christ and grow in Him.

Consider the vine. Vines can be one of the most beautiful parts of a garden, but they can grow rampant and even become harmful to the rest of the garden if not tended. Vines can become messy when left to their own growth and direction. A skilled gardener, however, does not allow vines to go unchecked. A skilled gardener will place a wooden trellis into the garden, providing the vine direction and room to grow. With the trellis, the vine is not wandering, it is not moving into areas it should not be in or where it may become harmful. No, the trellis provides the vine with a structured place to grow and a sense of direction, and the vine can become a helpful member of the garden.

As we start this new year, we need to ask ourselves if we have been wandering around Christ or walking with Christ. This passage in Isaiah tells us that God has not left us to our own devices trying to find our way. He has provided us with a trellis and direction found in His Word. His Word gives us clear guidance in the way we are to walk.

What are the things in life that influence your daily walk? Are you listening to God’s Word, allowing it to provide structure and direction for living? If not, use today as an opportunity to course-correct. Spend time seeking His way above your way.

Reflect & Pray

Dear God, please help me have ears to hear Your voice and the direction that You have for my life. Give me a hunger for Your Word so that I am not tempted to listen to my own ideas or desires if they are not in line with You. Thank you for the picture in Isaiah 30:21 that shows that You actively lead us as we walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Walk This Way

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
