The Gift of Wisdom - Heart
As with any race, we’ve come to the final lap of our study, and now we find ourselves tackling the concept of wisdom.
My mentor has a beautiful definition of wisdom, where he calls it the ability to see things from God's perspective. What a beautiful goal that is for us all, and hopefully, we can add some clarity as we move forward.
So far, I’ve unpacked how I started racing by acquiring head knowledge, which turned into understanding that connected to my hands. While those two components are crucial, at the end of the day, they are of little value if not directly coupled to our hearts with wisdom. At the racetrack, everything revolves around speed, and it all comes to a head on race day. In all reality, over 80% of the work necessary to win any given weekend occurred at the shop, but applying wisdom at the track is what would take us to victory lane.
On a given race weekend, there are typically several practice sessions where the track is open to test out equipment prior to race time. It was during these crucial sessions where wisdom would prevail. We would see where the car would not turn as desired or, in some cases, turned too much, making it unstable to drive, and in the moment, we would understand what we had to do to fix the issues. Ultimately, it was there that timing and opportunities met, and the success of our endeavors came down to the wisdom applied in those short windows.
There appears to be an uncanny parallel between how wisdom was applied at the track to how wisdom manifests itself in my life as a believer. The more time, effort, and attention that I poured into studying God’s Word, the easier it became to see how He would have me apply His teaching to my life. As I’ve grown as a disciple, I recognize a linear path of progression that begins with studying scripture, then moves to sharing (or teaching) those insights to others, and it ultimately culminates with the practical application of those principles in my daily life.
That trifecta effect only appears to be possible through the sovereignty and goodness of God. At the end of the day, I’ve had to teach myself, and quite frankly remind myself often, that wisdom is only available from God, and He provides it with extreme generosity when I humble myself enough to ask Him for it. The hard part for me is that often my pride is a headwind to my willingness to seek His wisdom in my life.
Maybe that resonates with you, and if so, perhaps now you will be more equipped to navigate this His way in the future. Wisdom, it seems, is the culmination of knowledge, understanding, and humility working together in our walk with Christ. It is the ability to align our perspective with God’s, seeing life’s opportunities, challenges, and decisions through His lens. Just as success at the racetrack requires preparation, practice, and timely application, so does our journey as believers. Wisdom is not something we generate on our own—it is a gift that God generously provides when we earnestly seek Him.
As we close, let this be a reminder that wisdom is not a finish line but an ongoing pursuit. It requires us to humbly turn to God, ask for His guidance, and trust in His plan. Whether you’re in the preparation phase, the practice phase, or actively applying what you’ve learned, know that God’s wisdom is always available to lead you toward victory in your faith and life. Lean into Him, ask boldly, and watch how His wisdom transforms your journey.
