Biblical Leadership Series: Lead Like Nehemiah

DAY 2 OF 5

Putting the Right People in the Right Places

A Godly leader knows that a vision, no matter how “small” it is, will require him or her to have the right people in the right places. The vision will require those with the proper skillset, abilities, talents, and experience in order for it to be successfully executed from start to finish.

Take a captain of a ship, for example, who steers the ship from the helm. However, there must be a team of sailors that tend to the operations of the ship, ensuring that everything “down below “ is working as it should so that the captain is able to get the people or freight to its destination. These men are not ignorant or ill-trained to how a ship is built or operated. They have the know-how to get the work done.

In the story of Nehemiah, this visionary leader solicited the help of additional leaders to support the many tasks, even noting that some of their families were laboring alongside them to rebuild the wall.

Nehemiah chapter 3 details the names and duties of each laborer. Every person or small group had a different task, but they were working beside each other in what I envision as being a synchronized effort to get the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt.

Reflective Question:

  • What were some of the most important leadership traits of the various laborers who worked to rebuild the wall? List them in your journal or notes.

Prayer:

Lord, please show me how to be a leader that knows who to assign to what tasks. May I serve as a leader who is aware of the skills, talents, and abilities of those that I serve alongside, able to effectively utilize each person's skills in a way that adds value to the assignment or project while also supporting their growth. In Jesus' name, amen.

About this Plan

Biblical Leadership Series: Lead Like Nehemiah

The book of Nehemiah shows us how the Lord can impact a nation through the prayers, perseverance and spiritual grit of one leader whose heart is aligned with God’s. The Prophet Nehemiah modeled for us the characteristics of a Godly leader, successfully leading the people in the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a man of prayer, vision, perseverance, strategy, and courage. Let's take a look at what the Lord wants us to glean from the leadership of Nehemiah in this plan by Evangelist April Snell.
