Decide to Thrive: Youth EditionSample
The Relationship Decision: Be Forgiving—Release Others from the Debt They Owe You
Forgiveness is essential to building and maintaining healthy relationships. None of us are perfect; we all make mistakes, and in our relationships, there will inevitably be moments of misunderstanding, disappointment, or hurt. Choosing to forgive is not about denying or forgetting what happened; rather, it’s about releasing the other person from the debt we feel they owe us. It’s a deliberate decision to pursue healing and peace instead of clinging to bitterness or resentment.
Forgiveness can be challenging, especially when the pain runs deep, but it is a vital step toward restoration. Jesus sets the ultimate example, forgiving us endlessly and unconditionally. He calls us to follow His lead, extending that same grace to others. When we forgive, we reflect His love and open the door for reconciliation and growth in our relationships.
The beauty of forgiveness lies in its transformative power. It doesn’t just free the person being forgiven; it also liberates the one who forgives. Letting go of bitterness lifts a heavy burden from our hearts, allowing us to move forward in freedom and joy. Today, consider someone you might need to forgive or a situation where you need to extend grace. Ask God for the strength to release the hurt and choose forgiveness, trusting that in doing so, you are creating space for healing and renewal in your life and relationships.
Reflection: Who is someone you need to forgive today? Will you choose to release your bitterness and give it to God?
