Confidence in the Gospel // Gospel X - Multiplying the Message

DAY 2 OF 7

Imagine a young adult. He grew up in a safe home, with a good education, food on the table, music lessons, and sports activities. He takes it all for granted. He gets bored and wants more excitement.
At some point, he breaks up with his parents. He demands half of his inheritance. He does not want any more contact with them. He just wants to have “his” money and never see them again. Strangely, his parents agree to it. They give him his share and let him leave. With all the money, he does whatever he wants. He drinks, parties, does drugs, and spends his nights with different girls and boys. He does not care about tomorrow but lives in the moment. His life is getting more and more wasted, but he just drowns himself in more drugs, alcohol, and girls.
After several years of this lifestyle, his money starts to run out. He relies on his friends. In the beginning, they let him stay over for some nights, but they all get fed up and at some point, there is no one left who cares for him. He lives on the streets and tries to find some work, but nobody wants to give him a chance. He walks the streets, picks up food leftovers, and collects bottles. When he starts to long for death, he starts to remember his family. He is ashamed of what he has become, but he hopes his father might at least give him a job.

So, he starts the long journey back. He knows he treated them badly. He received his inheritance, so he needs to rely on their goodness. When he comes near his hometown, he cannot believe it: his father is walking up to him with his arms wide open. His father waited for him every day and looked out for him. He is accepted back into the family without condemnation.

Isn’t this quite strange?
Would you, as a parent, react like this after your child wanted you dead and left?
Would you just accept that child back and let him take part in the family fortune?

God, our heavenly father did and he does it every day.
He is looking for his lost children everywhere and he welcomes them back home the moment they return home. This is amazing news!

About this Plan

Confidence in the Gospel // Gospel X - Multiplying the Message

Jesus left the church the vision of a movement when he challenged us to reproduce from our own Jerusalem into “Judea, Samaria and the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8). For us to see a movement, we need every Christ follower to adopt Jesus' personal mission to “seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10). Evangelism is core to the mission of Jesus and essential to accomplishing his vision. In this reading plan we will explore why is worth to be shared.
