Worship is us recognizing God’s holiness.

Worship is about recognizing God’s holiness and understanding that He is completely different from anyone or anything else. It can be easy to lump God in with our other relationships, thinking of Him as similar to the people we know. This reminds me of how my wife sees cars. She often mistakes cars that look like her mother’s car, based solely on color, while I can see they are different makes and models. She doesn’t always notice the details that make the car distinct. Sometimes, we do the same thing with God—we fail to recognize just how different and set apart He is from everything and everyone else.

God is not like anyone we are in relationship with. He is unique, holy, and worthy of all our worship. We worship God not just because of what He has done, but because of who He is. He alone is great and does wondrous things, and no one can compare to Him. Worship calls us to enter into His presence with thanksgiving and praise, acknowledging His goodness, love, and faithfulness.

When we recognize God’s holiness, we begin to see the beauty of who He is and the depth of our need to honor Him with all that we are. Our worship is a response to the truth that there is no one like Him—He is our Creator, Redeemer, and King.
