We Grow: A Journey of Drawing Closer to God

DAY 305 OF 365

Day 305 of 365

As we enter the month of November, our thoughts naturally turn toward gratitude. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on God’s goodness and faithfulness in our lives. In today’s readings, we see powerful examples of God’s mercy and justice. In Jeremiah 51, God promises judgment on Babylon, a nation that had oppressed His people. Yet, even in the midst of judgment, God’s faithfulness to His people is clear. He is a God of justice, but He is also a God of mercy, who delivers those who trust in Him.

In Hebrews 7, we read about Jesus, our great High Priest, who intercedes for us before the Father. Because of His perfect sacrifice, we can come before God with confidence, knowing that we are forgiven and accepted. This is the ultimate reason for our thanksgiving—the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. He is our advocate, continually interceding for us and securing our place in the family of God.

When we cultivate a heart of thanksgiving, we make room for the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds to the mysteries that surround us each and every day that were once hidden from us. The more we focus on the goodness of God, the more we see the goodness of God made manifest in our lives. Ephesians 5:18-20 encourages us to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The Holy Spirit fills us with joy and gratitude, enabling us to give thanks in all circumstances.

Thanksgiving is not just a holiday; it is a lifestyle. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, our hearts naturally overflow with gratitude. Even in difficult seasons, the Spirit enables us to give thanks, knowing that God is working all things together for our good. The Spirit opens our eyes to see God’s blessings, even in the midst of challenges, and He reminds us of the many reasons we have to be thankful.

Today, take time to reflect on the ways God has been faithful in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with thanksgiving, even in the midst of trials. As you give thanks, allow the Spirit to deepen your sense of gratitude and joy, knowing that God is with you and that His promises are sure. Let the Spirit lead you in a lifestyle of thanksgiving, one that reflects the goodness and faithfulness of God in every circumstance.
