Day 14 | The Holy Spirit Gives Us Specific Instructions

The Holy Spirit provides us with specific wisdom when we need it. In Acts 13:3, we see a clear example of this as the Antioch church set aside Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for God’s mission.

This text shows that fasting and praying are good ways to seek God’s will and power. In the Bible, fasting is often linked to humility and sincerely seeking God’s presence. Prayer is the only way for Christians to stay in touch with God, helping them make decisions and strengthening their faith (see Philippians 4:6–7). The early Christians understood that the purpose of the church was beyond human ability and required the Holy Spirit’s leading and empowerment.

The commissioning of Barnabas and Saul could not have happened without the presence and direction of the Holy Spirit. Mission and ministry work best when they are deeply rooted in divine direction and power. The early church was able to carry out the Great Commission because they relied on the Holy Spirit. The same principle applies today. Successful ministry is not the result of human effort or ingenuity but of divine empowerment.

Acts 13:3 reminds us of the importance of fasting and prayer as we seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in everything we do. Successful ministry and mission work are not based on human skill or cleverness but on God’s power and direction. As believers, we are called to follow the example of the early church by remaining attentive to the Holy Spirit and acknowledging that it is through His existence and influence that we are prepared to carry out the work God has given us.
