In one of Jesus’ teachings, He made it super practical for us when we feel scattered or when life just feels a bit chaotic. He said,

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

Now how many of you thought of an egg when he said “Yoke”?? When I first read this, that’s what I thought, but no - the yoke Jesus is referring to is a wooden cross piece used between 2 animals. It would typically attach to a cart or a plow, or something really really heavy. And this yoke would evenly distribute the weight so the animals could tow it easier than if they tried doing it themselves.

And here, Jesus is inviting those who are feeling tired or overwhelmed to take HIS Yoke upon you. For His yoke is easy, and doing life with HIM makes the heaviness of life feel light.

And because Jesus carried the absolute heaviest burdens of carrying all of our sins on the cross, He can definitely say - I can carry your burden today.

But I get it - sometimes with the pace of school and life, and especially this time of the year, it’s easy to forget or get lost in the chaos. But here’s the truth - JESUS offers us the gift of peace and rest when we come into His presence.

• Bottom Line: Jesus offers rest to those who are weary. His yoke is easy, and He invites us to find peace in Him.
