How did Jesus encourage his followers who were concerned about His departure?
Jesus often spoke in parables. Many of His teachings were hard to hear. His disciples did not want to hear that Jesus would soon be leaving them. When he was taken and crucified, their anguish became overwhelming. As a woman in labor forgets her pain when she holds her newborn baby, Jesus’s departure signaled the arrival of the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus promised. With Him came understanding, comfort, peace, and joy. He would also empower the disciples to courageously take a stand for Jesus until the very end. Jesus left this world so He could be with us forever. Rejoice that He lives today in each of His children.
