Journey With Jesus 365

DAY 101 OF 365

In Matthew Chapter 10, we are introduced to the disciples of Jesus Christ during His time on Earth.

John's Gospel tells us that Jesus called Peter through the preaching of John the Baptist, who bore witness that Jesus was the Messiah. However, Matthew’s Gospel describes Peter and his brother fishing by the Lake of Galilee when Jesus walked by. As He passed, He called to them, saying, “Follow me”. In fact, there were three distinct calls. The first was Christ’s call to Peter for salvation. The second was a call to enter into a closer relationship with the Lord and to express his love for Christ through tangible service. The third and final call was to become a disciple of Christ and to engage in His most important work.

God may be calling us to one of these three stages. Have we trusted in Christ and accepted salvation? Are we obeying the call to serve the Lord in tangible ways, such as witnessing or giving? Perhaps God is urging some to leave their current pursuits and wholeheartedly follow Him in dedicated service, like becoming a missionary or church planter.

God has a specific calling for each of His children, and it’s up to us to respond. What is God calling you to do today? Pray and ask the Lord to reveal His will, and be willing to answer the call.
