Fruit of the Spirit: A 14-Day Fast Devotional

DAY 12 OF 14

There is a constant battle happening within every believer: the conflict between the sinful nature and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit leads, it’s not just about doing the right things; it’s about aligning with God’s will and rejecting the desires that pull us away from Him. The sinful nature always seeks to do what’s contrary to the Spirit, but when you submit to His leading, you’re empowered to walk away from sin and toward the life God has called you to live. This isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily surrender to the Holy Spirit, who guides and empowers every step.

The key to overcoming this inner conflict is allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your life completely. You won’t always feel like following His lead—your human nature will want to pull you in the opposite direction. However, by choosing to trust Him, you open yourself up to a life that’s fully in step with God’s plan. Every action, thought, and decision becomes an opportunity to either follow the Spirit or give in to the flesh. When you walk by the Spirit, you’re empowered to live out your good intentions, not in your own strength, but through His guidance.

Discussion Questions:

  1. In what areas of your life are you struggling to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance?
  2. How can you strengthen your daily surrender to the Holy Spirit in order to overcome the desires of your sinful nature?
